Cool Star Wars Poster

Like any nerd around my generation I love the original Star Wars movies.  I am not an obsessive nerd about it but I appreciate all of the cool stuff based on it.    This is a really cool poster (in my opinion) and I don’t care what anyone says, Jedi is a good movie.  Click through for more fun posters at Live for Films.

Another Kevin Smith Red State Poster Helps the World

The next Red State movie poster has been released through a Twitter auction held by film-maker Kevin Smith.  This time @PussyEatingClub won the honours (be careful forwarding this to your mom), though some technical confusion in the bidding resulted in @xcinc winning the next exclusive release.

Be sure to tell people WHY the poster was released: becausehttp://pussyeatingclub.com/ bid $1700 to The Kenny Gordon Foundationhttp://www.kennygordonfoundation.com/in less than 30 minutes.

I Grew Up On A Street Made For Kevin Smith

This post is for Kevin Smith and his penchant for witty and punny titles, and Jason Mewes who is often the focus of said titles.

It feels like this came about in not a completely random way.  A few days ago I happened to have a chance to visit the neighbourhood that I grew up in.  I walked up my street and around the park behind my old house, showing the landmarks to my slightly interested daughter.  I used my iPhone to snap a few commemorative pics.

The next day I listened to Episode 12 of Jay and Silent Bob Get Old.  Jason Mewes talks a lot about the neighbourhood he grew up in and some of the shenanigans he got up to, and while the stories in no way mirrored my own, it kept that feeling of nostalgia going for me.

Then I went back and looked at the pics I had taken and was dumbfounded that I had never before made the connection between the name of the street I grew up on and the real Jay and Silent Bob.

Best Week Ever (for podcasts)

I am a little behind the times here but with the insane amount of show shoveling I had to do yesterday I was able to blast through the bulk of last week’s podcasts, and I must say that it was a strong week indeed.

Never Not Funny

First time guest Craig Bierko brought a fun new vibe to the show.  He and Jimmy riffed off of each other so well the time flew by, though unfortunately Matt was sort of left in their dust.  The highlight for me was the few times where Jimmy delivered a classic line and Craig (a self confessed fan of the show) laughed with obvious joy at seeing it first hand and being a part of it.  Great fun.

Alternate Poster for “The Mechanic”

Two official posters were recently released for the new Jason Statham movie The Mechanic.  Have you ever noticed how similarly Statham is dressed in most of his movies?

Official posters can be see at Live for Film.

New Red State Poster, New Shot at Media

A flurry of events led to a new Red State poster being released yesterday.

First, Kevin Smith retweeted one of my tweets (based on this article, yay me!) to kick off a flash fundraising campaign.

Red State – Can Kevin Smith Redefine Indie Filmmaking Again?

This post over at Live for Films with a great pic of John Goodman got me going on Kevin Smith again, but let’s start with a pic.

This is not John Goodman, so click to see John Goodman

I am loving the Red State of the Union podcasts with Kevin Smith (part of the SModcast network).  It is much more than just a way to promote his latest film.  It is a film making clinic in which he brings in different people who have worked on this film and talks about the film making process.  The passion expressed by his coworkers bolsters my excitement for this movie.

Joss Passed on Buffy Reboot – Makes Sense

This article at The Hollywood Reporter states that the recently announced Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot was offered to Joss last year and he declined.

This makes sense to me.  It would be one thing if it were to be a revival of the original cast (if that is even possible after all these years) and storyline that he loved, but a reboot is a much different animal.  I can understand not wanting to take something that you spent so many years crafting and just do it differently.  Where would the inspiration come from?  We already know what Joss Whedon’s take on Buffy is, how would he undo that and start from scratch?

Plus … The Avengers.  Hello!!

I still do not see a need for a new take on Buffy, especially so soon, but that is another rant filled with comments about original ideas and leaving perfection alone and Twilight sucks and all that.
