I Grew Up On A Street Made For Kevin Smith

This post is for Kevin Smith and his penchant for witty and punny titles, and Jason Mewes who is often the focus of said titles.

It feels like this came about in not a completely random way.  A few days ago I happened to have a chance to visit the neighbourhood that I grew up in.  I walked up my street and around the park behind my old house, showing the landmarks to my slightly interested daughter.  I used my iPhone to snap a few commemorative pics.

The next day I listened to Episode 12 of Jay and Silent Bob Get Old.  Jason Mewes talks a lot about the neighbourhood he grew up in and some of the shenanigans he got up to, and while the stories in no way mirrored my own, it kept that feeling of nostalgia going for me.

Then I went back and looked at the pics I had taken and was dumbfounded that I had never before made the connection between the name of the street I grew up on and the real Jay and Silent Bob.

Superchunk Live in Toronto

I went to a Superchunk show this week. It still seems weird and exciting to me. I think I just assumed that I was at the point in my life that I didn’t go to shows any more. Anyway, enough about me. First, the facts (and then more about me later):

  • Superchunk played at the Sound Academy in Toronto
  • It was December 9, 2010
  • They were opening for Broken Social Scene
  • Doors opened at 8pm, Superchunk went on at 9pm and played until 10pm
  • The two photos below from the show were taken with my iPhone and then run through Instagram to try to hide the shoddiness

Wireless Network Hijinx

Some people crazy with their wireless networks. I was in the mall and this popped up.

Tweetern Conflict – When Apps Collide

I had a dream last night that my tweets were attacking each other.

I think I need to spend a little time away from the iPhone.

Thanks, neighbours, for the best Trick or Treat haul ever! Next year I’ll bring the kids to help carry more.

Need to paint my cooler orange

The moon is pulling an all dayer

It is 9:00am, moon. That’s quite enough. Quit showing off.

Good Day, Moon

Kids can do some crazy things these days

I met this kid at the park who could levitate rocks. I asked her how she did it and told me “there is no park”.

My iPhone is still watching me

Damn that front camera.

iPhone 4 One Week In

So I have had my iPhone 4 for about a week.  The day after posting that I might not want one, I found one available and realized that I did want one.  So I got one.  Now I have one.

My initial impression is very positive.  Going from my 3G to the 4 is a big change.  I liken it to upgrading your computer; things have gotten better but nothing has drastically changed.

The main improvement that I’m loving is the speed.  Everything is significantly faster and I appreciate it with every poke.

The OS is basically the same, but with a few new features here and there that are cool and exciting.  I love the task switching.  The background image is a nice touch.

The battery life is quite nice.  The improved display is definitely better, but on a screen so small I don’t feel like it is that big of a deal.  I really enjoy the higher res camera and video capabilities, but the front camera seems just like an unnecessary gadget.  Face-time is not a seller for me.

I tried to upload a video I took using the WordPress iPhone app but it keeps crashing.  Not sure who to blame on this one.

The problem I complained about in my post from last week about podcasts starting part way in when I’m playing them for the first time is still happening, so I guess I cannot blame that on the 3G.

All in all, as I said, I am very happy.

Never mind that last iPhone post….

Sad 3G that has been replaced
