Holidays 2010 Wrap Up

The holidays are always good, because, well, they are the holidays and not work.  Unfortunately there was a lot of sickness in my house this year (including my own) derailing my plans for a lot of fun and exciting blog work.  Here is a little wrap up of the holiday highlights.

Let’s Declare December 29th International “Be Rotten” Day

In the build up to Christmas there are a lot of “be good or Santa wont come” threats in my house.  For the most part I do not feel that it has any effect, but it is good to get the kids thinking about the consequences of their behaviour (my 4 year old kept telling my 1 year old that she would receive a rock).

Operating under the assumption that one’s behaviour is in fact influenced by the powers of Santa, then December 1-24 is a month of exceptionally good behaviour.  Each box of the advent calendar gives your soul a little extra boost of Christmas cheer.

Get on the Bandwagon – Support Creative People

I love the power that the Internet gives to creative people to be able to produce art and entertainment and get it out there without bowing down to the bigwigs with money.  The Guild and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog are so great.

Here is another great web-based project: Bandwagon

The New Pornographers – Super Group in so many ways

If you do not know anything about the musical group (yes, this is not about pron) The New Pornographers, then you should find out.  They are a super group of sorts, comprised of prolific and talented artists, all successful as solo artists.  Go to their website for all the details, I don’t need to hackishly summarize their history.

They put out an album early in 2010, which is great.

Recently there has been some cool news about things aside from the music that make this group super, which is using their resources to support great organizations that are making the world a better place.

Album Obsessions: He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper

I was certainly exposed to rap before He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper.  Run DMC‘s Raising Hell, the Beastie Boys‘ License to Ill, even early 2 Live Crew (which truthfully frightened me).  I think that DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince were able to bring it down to a level that a young, white, suburban kid could appreciate.  I mean really … my parents didn’t understand either.

Cool Star Wars Poster

Like any nerd around my generation I love the original Star Wars movies.  I am not an obsessive nerd about it but I appreciate all of the cool stuff based on it.    This is a really cool poster (in my opinion) and I don’t care what anyone says, Jedi is a good movie.  Click through for more fun posters at Live for Films.

Another Kevin Smith Red State Poster Helps the World

The next Red State movie poster has been released through a Twitter auction held by film-maker Kevin Smith.  This time @PussyEatingClub won the honours (be careful forwarding this to your mom), though some technical confusion in the bidding resulted in @xcinc winning the next exclusive release.

Be sure to tell people WHY the poster was released: becausehttp://pussyeatingclub.com/ bid $1700 to The Kenny Gordon Foundationhttp://www.kennygordonfoundation.com/in less than 30 minutes.
